Schema markup is a code that goes on a particular website that indicates information to a crawler and search engine. The content on your website gets indexed and returned in search results. Schema markup uses a unique semantic vocabulary in the microdata format.

Schema markup is responsible for appearing in Rank zero (Rich snippet). Rich Snippets are some extra information about a website’s content on search engine results page. Rich Snippets can show review stars, an aggregate rating reviews which can all be found in the local box results.
